The Federal University of Roraima (UFRR) is a federal public institution of higher education established in 1989 and linked to the Ministry of Education (MEC). Its inaugural class took place in 1990, marking the beginning of academic and administrative activities at the Paricarana Campus in Boa Vista. It was the first federal university created without incorporating pre-existing institutions and also the first higher education institution in the state, playing a central role in the technical and scientific training of the local population. Since its creation, UFRR has played a strategic role in the development of Roraima, accompanying the transformation of the territory into a state and expanding the supply of qualified professionals.
Among its historical milestones are the graduation of the first undergraduate class (1991), the creation of the Cauamé Campus with the Agronomy program (1993), the foundation of the School of Application (2001), the creation of the Insikiran Center for Indigenous Education (2004), the implementation of the first master’s program in Natural Resources (2007), and the expansion into distance learning, new campuses, and student support policies.
Its mission is to produce, integrate, and share knowledge to educate citizens committed to cultural, social, economic, and environmental development. Its vision is to be a national and international reference in higher education, distinguished by its Amazonian and border-region knowledge. Its core values include human appreciation, transparency, excellence, responsibility, and proactivity. UFRR operates in an integrated way across teaching, research, and outreach, prioritizing interdisciplinarity and offering both on-site and distance education.
The Department of Mathematics at the Federal University of Roraima (DMAT/UFRR), located on the Paricarana Campus, Block V, is responsible for offering Mathematics programs in both teaching (Licentiate, on-site and distance learning) and Bachelor’s modalities. It also plays a key role in teacher training and research across various fields of pure, applied, and educational mathematics. Throughout its history, it has established itself as a reference center in the state, contributing to the expansion of higher education and the training of qualified professionals in a region historically lacking institutions of this kind.
DMAT carries out teaching, research, and outreach activities, maintaining projects focused on mathematics education, digital technologies, and problem-solving, with a strong commitment to the Amazonian and border context. It also promotes regular academic events, such as Mathematics Week and the Digital Videos and Mathematics Education Exhibition, which foster integration between the university, schools, and society.
Its faculty, composed of 26 professors with diverse research interests, ensures both academic consolidation and the promotion of applied research to regional needs, reinforcing UFRR’s role in the production and dissemination of knowledge.
